Changey Falls: Main Attraction of Kolakham

Changey Falls is the highest waterfall in North Bengal. The waterfall at an elevation of 2,200 m, is one of the attractions of Kolakham. It is located in the Lingsaykha Khasmahal area of ​​the present Kalimpong district.

The nearest airport is Bagdogra, and the nearest railway station is New Mal Junction. Its distance from Kolakham is 4 km, and its distance from Lava is about 14 km. To reach Changi Falls, the car goes up to the checkpoint and then the remaining 900 meters down the mountain road.

  • From Dooars: If you are coming from Dooars, you have to hire a cab to get here. It will take around 4 hours. Following Bagdogra / New Jalpaiguri / Duoars- Gorubathan – Lava – Kolakham – Changi
  • From Kalimpong: You can also reach here at Changey Falls via Kalimpong. From Bagdogra/ NJP Railway Station/ to Kalimpong – Lava – Neora Valley National Park- Kolakham – Changi Falls

This road is also mostly pedestrianized and there are steps and railings in some places, but due to landslides, many parts of the road have been disturbed. At many places on the road there are viewing points to see the waterfall, there is also an opportunity to take pictures from here.

It takes about an hour to go from Lava to Changi Falls and fifteen minutes from Kolakham. No public or private buses ply on this route. The only way to get there is by renting a car.

Earlier, there was no ticket system here, one could go down from the upper checkpoint, now with the increase of tourists, there is a system of tickets that has no fixed rate and takes about Rs. 20 per head.

Changi Falls, 14 km from Lava, is a wonderful creation of nature, the water level is so high after the monsoons, that its view is not to be missed. This waterfall is adjacent to Neora Valley National Park.

It is an ideal place for adventure-loving tourists as it is a must-come here to get a little feel of trekking through dense forests and mesmerizing mountain roads. This is not to say the natural feeling you will get on this road.

You won’t be disappointed if you struggle down this waterfall as you will find no sound other than the roar of the falls. Shopkeepers have not yet started here. A small food shop has been built in the middle of the way down. Moreover, you will not find any shop or anything else on this 900-meter journey.

Come down slowly to this waterfall to see a variety of mountain trees and animals. The water flowing is crystal clear here. Be careful when going down to the bottom of the falls because the rocks are very slippery, and you can’t see them from above.
