Mairung Gaon: The Perfect Weekend Getaway Near Kalimpong: Winter 2024

Mairung Gaon is a small hill village in Kalimpong. Mairung Gaon is an off beat destination for traveling in North Bengal.
This small hill village is full of immense natural beauty and lies within the Neora Valley National Park which is a travel destination for nature lovers.

The sound of birds is not known to be found when passing through the mountains village through the green. Stretching with an endless chest full of pure oxygen refreshes your mind. The only thing you will experience is presence when the Mairung Gaon that is familiar to you changes

As mentioned earlier this village belongs to Neora Valley National Park and Moirun Gao village is located on the northern slopes of the hill.
The altitude here is about 5000 ft above sea level. Kanchenjunga and other Himalayan peaks can be seen clearly from here in clear skies. Nathula and Zuluk of East Sikkim can be seen from here. There are few houses here. The main occupation of the inhabitants is farming on the hill steps.

This village is surrounded by big pine trees and small mountain springs. Come here if you want to enjoy the quiet nature only without the noise. In the evening, when the distant mountains are lit up like bonfires, that beauty cannot be understood. Those looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the city for a day or two can visit this Moirun gao in the heart of nature.

How to Reach Mairung Gaon?

To reach Moirun Gao you have to first come to the nearest railway station New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri. You can easily reach this hill village by renting a car or sharing a car from Siliguri or New Jalpaiguri. The distance from Siliguri to Moirun village is about 55 km. It will take two hours by car. Not only the village but the road on the way is impeccable.

• Walk wherever you like in nature
• Those who love to watch birds cannot stop taking pictures
• You can go trekking in the nearby small hills for which you must talk to the homestay.
• Talk to local villagers and get to know their homes and their way of life
• Wake up early in the morning and watch the sunrise and sunset in the afternoon sitting at the homestay
• You can pitch a tent outside the homestay and spend the night.
• Enjoy a bonfire or barbecue in the evening

Most of the places in Darjeeling and Sikkim can be visited from Myrun Gaon but I am looking for some good places that you must visit like Ichhey Gaon, Silari Gaon, Lava, Lolegaon, Rishop, Kolakham.

Mairun Gaon can be visited at any time of the year. However, landslides occur during the monsoon season in mountainous areas, so one should go with caution during this time
